What is World Maths Day?

World Maths Day is an event created by 3P Learning, makers of Mathletics. This year’s World Maths Day took place on March 14th and was a fantastic success!

To celebrate World Maths Day we offered a celebratory in-class competition pack and free access to Mathletics for all schools across Europe, the Middle East and Africa schools with everything needed to celebrate World Maths Day in their classroom. Using the Live Mathletics platform, your students tested their speed and accuracy in arithmetic and numeracy skills in a series of head-to-head maths battles – and had a lot of fun doing it!

Spark your student’s excitement and raise the profile of maths in your school!

How to Run Your World Maths Day Style Competition

This year’s World Maths Day competition involved teachers holding individual school and class head-to-head Live Mathletics competitions, if you missed out this year or would like to re-run your World Maths Day celebrations why not download the pack and run your own maths celebratory competition – you don’t need a specific date to celebrate maths!

Well… both. We recognise that different regions in the world use different terminology and encourage you to refer to this event with the right version for your country.

World Maths Day, 14 March 2019, is the world’s largest online maths celebration hosted on the Live Mathletics game engine, part of the award winning resource Mathletics used by 4 million students worldwide. The event is appropriate for students aged 4-16.

This year we’re offering free Mathletics access for March and an in-class competition pack. This will give teachers everything they need to run their in-class Live Mathletics competition lesson. The format of the competition is for every student to play every other student in the class in a round robin style league format. The teacher will then record the winners of each head-to-head Live Mathletics game on a league matrix provided in the competition pack. The student with the most head-to-head victories is the class winner.

Each Live Mathletics game runs for 60 seconds and students strike out early if they answer 3 questions incorrectly.
Classes are then encouraged to share their successes and World Maths Day celebrations on Twitter for the chance to win £300 worth of Mathletics licences!
